Nicole Ari Parker was born in New York City. She is an American actor in stage and films. Her most famous role is was that of Teri, the passionate attorney Teri Jospehson, on the Showtime television series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name following her marriage to. Her birthplace and childhood was within Baltimore Maryland. When she was an infant, she showed an aptitude for acting and received the Top Actress Award in a Maryland High School Contest. Contractor, born from Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She had already experienced many different travels and cultures from a young age. At the age of seven until nine, Contractor attended boarding schools in London. The family later relocated to Toronto which she stayed in through the majority of her childhood. Then, in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and trained as an classical ballerina. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a fine arts institution focused on theatre and dance. Contractor began acting at age 16, following nearly 10 years of dance. After graduating high school, she was awarded a full scholarship to at the University of Toronto, where she completed a masters degree in the field of theatre, and a double major in sociology and psychology. Contractor attended the highly-regarded Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After one full year of auditions, she was offered the lead part. Her performance was lauded throughout the 92 productions which she was a part of. She was awarded an award in 2002, which was awarded to the best production of the Year by Canadian Critics. Contractor accepted the invitation to join Stratford's Conservatory. There are only eight males and four females accepted to a course of 20 weeks of classical theater. Contractor got a confirmed spot for the following season, and was offered the part as Hermia.
